Description

REWIRE x KORZO #2
With Colin Stetson & Sarah Neufeld, Szun Waves, Otto Lindholm, Oceanic & Steve Motto

The program for the second edition of The Hague’s Rewire x Korzo is confirmed, the new collaboration between Rewire festival and contemporary dance and music venue Korzo. The organizations have joined forces to organize a series of dynamic concert nights with new music. On Saturday, September 10th, the program consists of the sensational bass-saxofonist Colin Stetson accompanied by violinist Sarah Neufeld. The new super trio Szun Waves, that consists of musical adventurers Luke Abbott, Laurence Pike and Jack Wylie. And Brussels drone artist and bassist Otto Lindholm. Oceanic & Steve Motto will play the beats at the Korzo bar.

The headline of the 2nd edition of Rewire x Korzo is the Montreal based duo Colin Stetson and Sarah Neufeld. Together they have made the critically acclaimed album Never were the way she was, out on Constellation records. The saxophonist and violinist worked together in several groups, including the very successful Canadian indie rock band Arcade Fire. In his mesmerizing solo pieces Colin Stetson uses impressive circular breathing techniques and strengthening the sounds of the saxophone with microphones. Previously he worked with greats like Tom Waits and David Byrne. Violinist Sarah Neufeld released her solo album Superhero Brother in 2013. It was recorded by composer and producer Nils Frahm in Berlin.

Szun Waves is a trio of forward-thinking music-makers from across the musical spectrum. Luke Abbott is best-known for his looping electronic music released on Border Community, Laurence Pike is drummer for Australia's math-rock experimentalists PVT (formerly Pivot), and Jack Wylie is usually found playing saxophone and tinkling keys with the UK's Portico (formerly Portico Quartet). Despite geographical complications they got together at James Holden's Sacred Walls studio in 2015 to try piecing together their individual talents into an improvised whole. Thankfully they recorded their fearsomely good noodlings and released an EP, named after the studio it was born in, on Abbott's own Buffalo Temple imprint on May 20. Their style can be characterized as a combination of psychedelic electronica and spiritual jazz.

Brussels drone artist and bassist Otto Lindholm recently released his critically acclaimed debut LP simply called Otto Lindholm on Icarus Records / Vinyl Vynilla. Lindholm manipulates his double bass with various analogue effects and live loop stations. The double bass dialogues in the dark with blinking analogue machines creating beatless but dynamic music, fully habited by plate-shifting bass drones.
