Description

Booker T. Jones is one of the fathers of modern soul music, whose name is synonymous with the sound of a Hammond B-3 organ and the legendary Memphis recording studio, Stax Records.
Stax produced artists Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, Rufus and Carla, Sam and Dave, and many more, all supported by the talented house band Booker T. and the M.G.‘s. On classic Stax Records hits like ‘Green Onions’, ‘Hang ‘Em High’ and ‘Time is Tight’, Booker T. Jones pushed the boundaries of music, refined it to its essence, then injected it into the nation’s bloodstream. Today, the tunes and grooves of this acclaimed Hammond B-3 organist are woven inextricably into the fabric of the American experience.

Booker T. presents The Stax Revue showcases Jones, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Musician Hall of Fame inductee, Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award recipient and winner of four Grammy Awards as he plays the audience through the history that is Stax Records performing classic hits and songs by the MGs. Expect some of his own songbook, close knit collaborations and some adventurous covers.

Jones has also made the charts as a solo performer, lent his trademark keyboards to many artists ranging in genre from Ray Charles to Neil Young and produced albums for Rita Coolidge, Bill Withers, Willie Nelson and more.

At 71-years-old, the Memphis man possesses the chops and the drive of a much younger man, releasing the entirely new album Sound The Alarm a few years back (featuring the likes of Mayer Hawthorne, Anthony Hamilton, Sheila E., Estelle, Gary Clark, Jr. and Vintage Trouble), while continuing to tour on a regular basis. Take a stroll through the Stax classic cannon with Booker T. Jones and relive or create memories from the artist who continues to be an integral figure in influencing multiple generations of musicians and genres.

‘That enthusiasm for all kinds of music – rock, pop and blues – came across clearly in last night’s show, showing just how capably Jones can shift between genres and what a true American treasure he is.’ Cleveland Scene
