Vader is a Polish death metal band from Olsztyn. Formed in 1983, the group was founded by then-bassist Piotr "Peter" Wiwczarek and guitarist Zbigniew "Vika" Wróblewski. Vader went through several line up changes over the years, and since 2011 comprises Wiwczarek on guitars and vocals, guitarist Marek "Spider" Pająk, bassist Tomasz "Hal" Halicki, and British drummer James Stewart.
Starting as a heavy metal group, Vader eventually went to thrash, speed, and then in the late 1980s became a death metal band. The band's name was inspired by Darth Vader from the Star Wars film series. Lyrical themes include stories by H. P. Lovecraft, World War II, horror, and anti-religious messages. According to Billboard magazine, by 2002 Vader sold approximately 500,000 releases around theworld.
Vader was formed in 1983, the same year as the very first death metal pioneers Possessed and Death. However, at this time Vader was a heavy/speed metal band, later evolving into thrash metal and then finally death metal for the band's first demo, Live in Decay, in 1986. Vader released another demo, Necrolust, in 1989, but it was not until the band's third demo, Morbid Reich, in 1990, that Vader gained international attention. Morbid Reich sold nearly 10,000 copies, making it one of the most sold metal demos ever. This success earned the group a contract with Earache Records. The songs from Morbid Reich would appear later on Vader's full-length debut album in 1993, The Ultimate Incantation.
Due to communication breakdowns, the contract with Earache was terminated and the release of Sothis and The Darkest Age: Live '93, both in 1994, had to bereleased on different labels. In the meantime, Vader toured relentlessly, and in 1995, the band signed a contract with Impact Records. Vader then released De Profundis, Future of the Past, and Black to the Blind. Then, Hammerheart Records re-released two early demos, Necrolust and Morbid Reich, as the compilation Reborn in Chaos. In August 1998, Vader released Live in Japan. Vader also recorded the Kingdom EP and a VHS video entitled Vision and Voice around this time; both were released in December. In October 1998, Vader opened for Slayer during a show in Poland. At the end of 1998, Vader signed a contract to Metal Blade Records.
Vader spent most of 1999 touring. In March, Vader embarked on their first headlining U.S. tour, the International Extreme Music Festival 1999, and in May Vader played at Metalmania. In June, the band went on another European tour, and the rest of the summer was filled with numerous appearances at festivals in Central Europe. Vader concluded touring by embarking on a European tour with thrash metal band Testament. In November and December 1999, Vader recorded the album Litany, which was released in March 2000, and recorded a music video for the song "Cold Demons," which appeared on a special-edition digipack. The release of the album was also supported by live shows, including April's No Mercy Festival 2000, and in June, the band embarked on a 30-date European tour with Vital Remains, Fleshcrawl, and The Crown.
In April 2001, Vader released the EP Reign Forever World, featuring re-recorded songs, coversongs, and live tracks. The band promoted the album intensively, touring Poland, Russia and Ukraine, and again in the U.S. In September 2001, they did another European tour with Cryptopsy, Dying Fetus, Catastrophic, and several other bands. This was followed by ten Polish appearances as part of the Thrash'em All Festival 2001, along with Krisiun, Behemoth and several Polish death metal and black metal bands.
In 2002, Vader released Revelations, and toured England, Scotland, and Ireland during the No Mercy Festival's dates. In May, the band released its first DVD, More Vision and the Voice. In 2004, the band started recording TheBeast. Recording sessions for the album were postponed in May due to an accident which injured the drummer, Doc. He was replaced with Daray from the Polish band Vesania. Recording was finished in mid-July, and to support the album, the band toured again, appearing at over 170 concerts. The Europe-wide tour saw Vader's first trip to the Balkans. The most important gig of 2004 was at the Silesian Stadium in Chorzów, where the band opened for Metallica in front of 50,000 people.
In March 2005, drummer Doc left the band due to apparent drug problems. Five months later, he died unexpectedly from heart failure. In 2008, Novy decided to leave Vader after five years; Marcin Rygiel (ex-Decapitated) replaced him on bass for the U.S. Summer Slaughter Tour 2008. Reyash would join as a permanent bassist later in the year.
In 2009, Vader's eighth album, Necropolis, was released via Nuclear Blast Records. The album was recorded at Hertz studios in Bialystok, Poland with the Wieslawski Bros. In 2011, Vader released another album, entitled Welcome to the Morbid Reich.
In December 2013, Vader entered the studio to record their upcoming album, titled Tibi Et Igni, for an early 2014 release. On March 7, 2014, the band finished recording the album, which was released on May 30 by Nuclear Blast. Their next album, The Empire, was released on November 4, 2016.
The band toured all over the world for nearly two years in support of The Empire, including headlining a US tour in May and June 2017, and supporting Testament and Annihilator in Europe in March and April 2018.
The band released an extended play titled Thy Messenger on 31 May 2019 through Nuclear Blast. Their newest full-length album, Solitude in Madness, was released on 1 May 2020. As of January 2022, according to Piotr "Peter" Wiwczarek, Vader has begun recording new music for their next album. In March 2022, it was announced drummer James Stewart had departed the band a month prior and was replaced by Michał Andrzejczyk

HATE has always meant the essence of extreme and unholy metal, and as such, had tremendous influence over forming the Polish metal scene in the nineties and noughties. Established in 1990 in Warsaw by a guitarist and vocalist ATF Sinner, the band has quickly become one of the leading acts in the Polish underground. HATE's music was always elaborate death metal with lyrics concentrating on apocalyptic themes, spiritual mysticism and dark part of self, showing distinct anti-god attitude.
In 1992 the first demo "Abhorrence" was released by a small underground label Hate Productions. After numerous line-up changes and releasing a series of records available solely in their native Poland, the group inked their first international record deal with an American label World War III in 2000. At that point the band was given an opportunity to leave obscurity of Polish underground in which they remained for a decade. Soon HATE's early material was released on two discs titled “Holy Dead Trinity” (2000) and “Cain’s Way” (2002). A year later, the band signed another contract with French-based label – Listenable, and released their next, highly acclaimed album “Awakening of the Liar” (2003), which is considered one of the Polish death metal masterpieces. In 2004 the group was working on an official DVD material titled “The Litanies of Satan”, which was soon released by Metal Mind Productions. In that period the band’s style acquired new characteristics - industrial and ambient elements appeared in the background of the main riffs. This kind of arrangements were further developed on the next album titled “Anaclasis - a gospel of malice and hatred” (2005), which no longer presented classical death metal but ingenious combination of death, black and heavy metal with distinct industrial influences. “Anaclasis” got great reviews in almost all metal magazines across Europe and was highly acclaimed as one of the most innovative records in the genre. In support of the album, the band went on their first full-fledged European tour with Carpathian Forest and Keep of Kalessin and appeared on a few important festivals such as PartySan Open Air, Winter Assault and more. In 2007 the band once again went on a European tour, this time accompanied by their countrymen Decapitated.
January 2008 saw another album from HATE which was titled “Morphosis” and released again via Listenable. The record showed fast musical development of the band, as well as the production part. HATE got offers from numerous festivals, such as Neurotic Death Fest, Brutal Assault, Screamfest, Metalcamp, Summer Breeze O.A., Metal Heads’ Mission and more. In May 2008, the group released their first official video-clip for the song “Threnody”, which was shot in an actual coal mine in Silesia/Poland. The album “Morphosis” has also been officially released in the USA, South America and Russia.
The year 2010 saw the band's further development and intensive touring schedule. Their next album "Erebos" was supported by intensive tours in both Europe and America with groups such as Hypocrisy, Sepultura, Rotting Christ and Mayhem. The band also visited Brazil, Mexico and Russia reaching as far east as Siberia with their shows. Coming back home from the tour, HATE shot their second official video for the title track "Erebos".
In 2012 the group inked a new record agreement with Austrian-based label Napalm Records. The album titled "Solarflesh" was released under the new flag in the beginning of 2013 receiving a lot of praise in the music press and gaining the band more recognition the world over. In March/April 2013 the band was traveling through Germany on a European tour with Sweden's death metallers Hypocrisy. In the early morning of April 6th, HATE's bassist Sławek "Mortifier" Archangielskij died in his sleep near the city of Munchberg. He was discovered lifeless in the morning by other band members. An ambulance was immediately called in and Slawek was reanimated, but to no avail. An autopsy revealed that the cause of death was cardiac arrhythmia. Mortifer's tragic and unexpected passing was a hard blow and the band's continuation was at question for some time. After a few weeks, however, the musicians announced that they would come back. Having Mortifer's wife Aleksandra on bass guitar, HATE took part in Hellfest Festival in France in June 2013. Afterwards the band played a series of summer festivals around Europe with a session bassist and announced that they would work on a new record. In March 2014 HATE set out on a tour across Europe again, this time in the company of Norway's Kampfar, and in June they entered Hertz Studio in Poland to start recording the 9-th full-length album with release pegged for early 2015 through Naplam Records. The new opus came out under the title of "Crusade:Zero".
The band released their tenth full-length album, “Tremendum“, on May 5, 2017, which was the last album under the wings of Napalm Records. It was recorded with Adam ATF on guitar/vocals and Pavulon on drums, with session guitars and bass by Dominik Prykiel and Paweł Michałowski respectively. It also features guest guitar solos from Dean Arnold of Vital Remains. The band toured across Europe, US, Russia and Asia in support of the album.
HATE signed a deal with Metal Blade Records and the next opus “Auric Gates of Veles” was released on June 14, 2019. Tours and numerous festival appearances followed including the tour with Vader in Scandinavia. Despite the Covid pandemic, the band, being deprived of the possibility to perform live actively, concentrated on the recording of the next album entitled “Rugia”, which was released on October 15, 2021 by Metal Blade and was outstandingly well received by all critics and listeners. Now, when the pandemic is finally over HATE is coming back in their best shape supporting the latest release.
