Description
Now in its seventh year, the Radio 3 Awards for World Music has established itself as a major event in the international music calendar, and this year the Proms welcomes its winners for the first time.
The 11 categories of the Awards embrace music reflecting a kaleidoscopic range of cultural traditions from around the world - so we have Cape Verdean songs from Mayra Andrade (Newcomer); desert blues from Justin Adams and Juldeh Camara (Culture Crossing); the sounds of the Malian ngoni (a kind of lute) from Bassekou Kouyate (Africa and Album of the Year); Chinese electronica from Sa Dingding (Asia/Pacific); and flamenco fusion from Son de la Frontera (Europe).
