ZURICH SOUNDS

A celebration of the best new music emerging from Zurich!

Between the 31st July and the 11th August 2012, House of Switzerland will present a series of spectacular concerts, showcasing the unique talent and inspired, diverse music currently being produced by the city of Zurich.

House of Switzerland is the official Swiss hospitality centre at the Olympic Games presented by the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, Presence Switzerland. Located next to London Bridge, the specially created stage at House of Switzerland will play host to the immensely talented likes of Rusconi, Nik Bärtsch's Ronin, Yves Theiler Trio and Ingrid Lukas in this dedicated series of free events.

Rusconi - August 02, 6pm and 9pm

Rusconi kick off the jazz element of this festival with the launch of their new album, "Revolution". They were formed seven years ago and have already released 5 albums the latest of which Revolution was released in March 2012. They are a difficult group to catagorise owing as much to rock artists as influences as they do to jazz.

Nik Bärtsch's Ronin - August 08, 6pm and 9pm

Ronin are a band described by their band leader/composer Nik Bärtsch as "Zen-Funk" and "Ritual Groove Music." What they offer is a tight, trance-like, rhythm based music, with parts constantly interlocking and breaking away from each other. For the past 6 years Ronin have played together every Monday night in Zurich allowing them to develop and refine their distinctive sound.

Yves Theiler Trio - August 09, 6pm and 9pm

The Yves Theiler Trio were founded four years ago with their first release Out of the Box coming out last year. They have a firm grounding in improvisation but also a flair for composition, utilising strong melodies and complex rhythmic patterns. The trio firmly believes that complexity should never get in the way of clarity though and present the audience with honest and original music.

Ingrid Lukas - August 10, 6pm and 9pm

Lukas is an Estonian living in Zurich who's music is based on the traditions of her home home country. Her music is noted for it's haunting lyric quality. Lukas is also influenced by composers like Arvo Pärt , Björk and Nik Bärtsch and also the simplicity of the Estonian singing culture. She strips her music down to the bare essentials always asking herself the question "How little is enough?"
