Description
The Numusic Festival, now entering its 14th year is Norway’s leading festival of electronic music. Established in 2000 this “boutique” festival, held in Stavanger on the west coast of the fjords, has a bold aim, to present “The History and Future Direction of Electronic Music”.
Over the years the festival has hosted everyone from renowned composers such as Steve Reich (USA), Karlheinz Stockhausen (DE) and Pierre Henry (FR) to Detroit techno pioneers such as Underground Resistance, Carl Craig and Jeff Mills. In2011 the festival secured the world premier of Jeff Mills “Light from the Outside World” project, 12 compositions of Mills back catalogue written for Orchestra and performed by Jeff Mills & Stavanger Symphony Orchestra.
Alongside these pioneering acts and world premieres, Numusic also provide a dynamic platform for emerging newcomers and breaking genres such as Minimal, Nudisco and Dubstep. Kode9 and the Hyperdub stable of artists being regular guests over the past few years.
Not forgetting their roots, Numusic have also been at the forefront in presenting the very best of Norway’s producers and artists such as Lindstrøm, Diskjøkke, Annie, Datarock, Casiokids, Bugge Wesseltoft, Prins Thomas and the many others that have gone to secure international acclaim.
