GRAUZONE Festival announces the first names: THE FALL (UK), Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft – DAF (DE), Clan Of Xymox (NL), The Woken Trees (DK), Shopping (UK), Camera (DE), Membranes (UK), Jessica 93 (FR), Lola Colt (UK), The Oscillation (UK), DJ Helena Hauff (DE), Viv Albertine (UK).

The fest takes place fri 30 & sat 31 january 2015 and thus grows from one to two days. Also, the 3rd edition will broaden its musical horizon (besides post-punk, new wave, electronic, indie & goth, also psych & krautrock) and there will be even more attention to breaking new bands.

THE FALL is one of the most legendary late-’70s punk and post-punk bands, none were longer lived or more prolific, and their cacophonic music being an acknowledged influence on Sonic Youth (who covered 3 songs), Nirvana, The Smiths, Pavement, Happy Mondays, etc. Singer/bandleader/anti-star Mark E. Smith and band have released a remarkable 31 albums. Having survived punk, 80s indie, Madchester and Britpop, they continue to have a near-religious following also because of their often legendary performances.

Influential electropunk / Neue Deutsche Welle duo D.A.F. – Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft – are pioneers of Electro punk, EBM (Electric Body Music) and techno influencing bands like Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, Front 242, and Rammstein. Their 1981 song “Der Mussolini” became an international hit and a monster in the dance clubs. These electro punk legends are now occasionally playing succesfull reunion shows.

Clan Of Xymox is one of the pioneers of darkwave electro-gothic music releasing their first albums in the mid 80’s on the 4AD label (Dead Can Dance, Cocteau Twins, Bauhaus, Birthday Party) after which they had many succesfull albums and worldwide tours. Bandleader Ronnie Moorings vocals have been described as THE definitive goth voice.

Avant noise post-punkers The Membranes inspired Big Black, Sonic Youth etc. They were signed by Creation records (My Bloody Valentine, The Jesus and Mary Chain), championed by DJ John Peel and recorded by fan Steve Albini (Shellac, Big Black).

We also have many breaking, cutting edge new bands. Six-piece industrial post-punk/wave band The Woken Trees from Copenhagen sound like Joy Division heading for some occult mass at midnight. East London 3-piece post-punk funk band Shopping will make you dance. London psychedelic trio The Oscillation combine kraut and spacerock with PIL post-punk dubs featuring a psychedelic light show. Berlin-based trio Camera play a modern version of krautrock and plays a lot with NEU! London-based Lola Colt are described in the press as 2014’s breakthrough band, a captivating live band whose debut album is recorded by Jim Sclavunos (Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Grinderman, Sonic Youth).

Helena Hauff is a popular techno-EBM-minimal synth-wave DJ/producer from Hamburg. Jessica 93 is a post-punk, shoegaze one-man-band project from Paris. Punk pioneer Viv Albertine, guitarist of The Slits, will present her autobiography at the symposium.
