Ölhävers (approx. "beer-downers") is a Swedish punk-rock band producing music in the lesser known Swedish sub-genre trallpunk (sing-along-punk), formed around 1989-90 (they themselves says in an interview with on-line zine Strebers that they cannot really recall exactly when).
The band consisted originally of four members who got together to write fun lyrics over a few cases of beer (they claim to easily drink 50 bottles each). At first the quintett distributed their music via cassettes to friends with ever-increasing demand forcing a professionally produced demo "Full och Arbetslös" (Pissed and Unemployed) in 1996, that were released on cd. Selling like hotcakes they recruited a bassist and a drummer, going on stage for the first time ever, at the Westgothia Festival the same year.
The first full album released was "Full Å Stolt" (Pissed 'N Proud) 1998, which, unlike the professionally released demo, is a 25-track home production, burned off a PC in one of the band members' homes, to order! The previous 4-track demo sold itself out of press at 2,000 copies, and has been included as a Bonus on the first album - totalling a hefty 29 tracks.
All six band members are born and bred in the Swedish industrial town of Trollhättan (home to car manufacturer SAAB) near Gothenburg, in the county of West Gothia. Only two band members are gainfully employed (at SAAB no less), the others are "independent" with one trying to be an artisan.
Ölhävers has been released on numerous punk and Swedish rock promos / compilations, i.e. "1000% -Del 1" released on Full Spåtant Records, 2002 and "Äggröran 3" released on Ägg Tapes & Records, 2003.
