Biography

Tokyo, Japan - (2005 - present)

アーバンギャルド 攀 (Climbing Abangyaldo) is a japanese quintet active since 2005 whose focus is the development of noisy art in industrial scale: steampunk erotic literature, surrealist videos of violent humor, comics of unstable narrative, psychedelic accessories and music. The music of Climbing Abangyaldo ("Abangyaldo" was the name of an octopus-like monster which the grandmother of Miyazaki Nushita, thereminist, vocalist and saxophonist of the band, told him scary stories to force him to sleep) draws elements from various genres, in search of creating the sounds as loud, unstable and clingy as possible.

According to Sujatmi Fujita, guitarrist, pianist, vocalist and synthesizer programmer of the band, the musical side of Climbing Abangyaldo draws influences from harsh noise, ambient black metal, ye-ye, gospel blues, samba, highlife, aboriginal tribal music, hip-hop, bubblegum pop, and, according to her in the same interview, "music too homosexual".

However, only the musical side is used; any ideology or thought originally linked to the genres cited are solemnly ignored by the band and replaced by sarcastic, electric and violent lyrics.

The expenses of the artistic productions of the group are paid by Sujatmi Fujita, heir to an Indonesian network of department stores, and Cow on Wheels, the band's business mentor who remains anonymous.

Climbing Abangyaldo have released three albums and about nine 'sound projects' that can't be exactly treated as music (those are usually recordings of people in public bathrooms urinating, excreting or masturbating followed by the group members surprising them, remixes of recordings of noisy congestions in urban avenues, and interviews of unusual questions with imprisoned criminals). As for the albums, they are: カプセル型倒立 ("Inverted Capsule"), claustrophobic album heavily influenced by noise and a lethally happy pop, released in the first semester of 2006, P R I M A L, a chaotic album that mixes indigenous drums, a theremin-generated gloomy atmosphere and typical hip-hop vocals, released in the second semester of 2008, and Klevoo - Misadventures of a Gothic Lolita in 2320's Cyberpunk Africa, a concept album of numerous influences that tells a strange love story through dissonant rhythms and noises, released in the second semester of 2009.

The group's performances are described as 'electro-operas", making much use of costumes, dance and visual intensity. A curiosity about their performances is that the members of the group, as they play their instruments, use octopus-shaped masks and helmets.
