Koichi Domoto (堂本光一/Doumoto Kouichi, born Jan 01st, 1979 in Ashiya/Japan) is a famous Japanese artist. He's member of the popular Japanese pop duo 'KinKi Kids' along with Tsuyoshi Domoto (no relation) and the main character in his own musical 'SHOCK' since 2000.

Biography

At the age of 12, Koichi joined Johnny & Associates, one of Japan's most famous talent agencies (they produce most of Japan's No.1 male idol groups including SMAP, V6 and Arashi). His sister is partly responsible for this as she was the one to send his profile to Johnny's (she was a huge fan of Shounentai, Johnny's longest-lived group).

At the beginning, he appeared in various TV dramas and performed as a back dancer for groups like SMAP along with other Johnny's Juniors. One of them was Tsuyoshi Domoto with whom he formed the group 'Kanzai Boya' in 1993, this name was changed to 'KinKi Kids' for their official debut in 1997 (KinKi being taken from the Japanese area 'Kinki' where both of them come from).

On Jul 21st, 1997 'KinKi Kids' officially debuted with the single 硝子の少年 (Glass no Shounen) which hit #1 instantly. Ever since then, all of their singles have been #1 hits which has gained them an entry in the Guinness Book of Records for the most consecutive #1 singles.

Since 2000, Koichi has been the leading character in the musical 'SHOCK' which is performed in the Imperial Garden Theater of Tokyo almost every year.
In 2004 Koichi held his first solo tour where he mainly performed songs from the 'SHOCK' musicals as well as his solos from 'KinKi Kids' as well as some own tracks.

His first real debut as a solo artist was on Jul 12th, 2006 with the release of the single 'Deep in your heart/+MILLION but -LOVE'. His first solo album entitled 'mirror' followed on Sep 13th 2006. The album release was accompanied by his second solo tour of the same name, 'mirror'.
