小室哲哉 Tetsuya Komuro debuted in 1984 as the keyboardist, songwriter and producer for the band TM Network. During this period, he also wrote songs for many of Japan's most popular idol singers: Seiko Matsuda 松田聖子, Akina Nakamori 中森明菜, Miho Nakayama 中山美穂, Kyoko Koizumi 小泉今日子, Rie Miyazawa 宮沢りえ and Arisa Mizuki 観月ありさ. In 1989, he released a number of solo singles, two of which "Running Horizon" and "Gravity of Love" made it to number 1 on the Oricon charts. In 1994, TM Network broke up, and Komuro began producing a long string of number one hits for the likes of Namie Amuro 安室奈美恵, TRF, globe (of which he is a member), Tomomi Kahara 華原朋美, Ami Suzuki 鈴木あみ, H Jungle with t, Arisa Mizuki 観月ありさ, Ryoko Shinohara 篠原涼子, hitomi and Yuuki Uchida 内田有紀, making him the second most successful songwriter in Japanese history after Kyouhei Tsutsumi 筒美京平. On April 15, 1996, the top five Oricon hits had all been written or produced by Komuro. He has been married to a succession of singers: Kanako Ootani from 1988 to 1992, Asami Yoshida from 2001 to 2002, and Keiko of globe from 2002.
