Chiyoko Shimakura (島倉千代子 or しまくらちよこ, Shimakura Chiyoko) (March 30 1938 - November 8 2013) was a well-known folk and enka singer and TV presenter in Japan. She began singing professionally in 1954 at the age of 16 and continued until her death in 2013, a total of nearly 60 years. Her debut single, この世の花 (Kono yo no hana), has sold more than 2 million copies. Throughout her lifetime she appeared a total of 35 times in Kôhaku Utagassen, NHK's New Year singing competition, and also in several movies and TV commercials.
