On “Immortal,” 21 Savage raps about his murderous tendencies while also name-dropping characters in the Mortal Kombat video game series.
The song was previewed in the Mortal Kombat 11 trailer that was released on December 6, 2018. It was originally speculated to appear on 21’s second studio album, i am > i was, which released two weeks after the trailer. However, this did not occur, and the track’s release date was undetermined.
On August 10, 2019, 21 teased the song’s imminent release, tweeting: "Let's see how many retweets i can get to persuade me to drop immortal"
The track was finally released on Halloween 2019, nearly eleven months after it was first teased.
