Great orthodox black metal band. Evenly paced, complex but not over-the-top music, and their albums only get progressively better. Remember seeing them live almost a decade ago in a small but packed full of people venue, they were good. Hope to see them again sometime in the future.

it's extremely telling how 20 years later and lastfm is still an absolute mess with its charts, which is one of the primary reasons for the sites existence, despite being unable and unwilling to remove bots and false scrobblers and haven't bothered to update the sites decade+ old code. we could easily blame the people who first wrote this iterations code in 2012(ish?) with this current redesign that has lasted ever since, after a time when the layout was changing every couple of years. we could also blame the fact that this is a well known ongoing issue that's complained about often and they're unwilling to do anything but maintain a skeleton crew custodial team and foolishly delete innocent users :( rip

Their music really started to grow on me the more I listened to them. Probably the best Greek bm band I've heard.

I agree. Also, their last three albums are some of their best work. So they appear to only be getting stronger.

The new album is very melodic. So if you do not like the highlighting of melodies and extended harmonies with orthodox riffing and wailing, you will not like it. Personally, I prefer Ofermod's approach, which still includes melodic lines creeping into the composition here or there, but it's more minimalist, yet still full of devotional intonations, brutish aggression, and of less sterile production. Acherontas strays so much from the basic premise of gloomy orthodoxy in BM with its dazzling, extravagantly colorful melodies that I would call it Vocational Black Metal. Elitism in BM is a fine line that you only have to cross a tiny bit to upset the balance of perfection.

really good new album, again likely to be among the year's best for me.. somewhat different sounding to their previous but not so much, just a few hooks and tunes are a bit different..

Delete them completely and re-scrobble manually with some media player. I had been correcting my scrobbles like this for years before I upgraded to pro.

Apparently they changed name to Αχεροντας (same name just in Greek alphabet, idk why) and they're gonna release new album on 14th March.

C'mon guys, new album is fucking weak. Take a big rest and come back with new and fresh ideas, is too much of the same...

contrary to apparently most people in this shoutbox, i think their latest 2 albums are their best works with far more things going on in the riffs than any of their previous albums.

I mean, is not bad, is Acherontas after all, but way far from being "their best". This one and "Amarta" are very weak IMHO.

Faustian Ethos is great, as allways... But, about Ma Ion, I really can't understand why the lack of love about that masterpiece. IMO is their best album (2º Vamachara and 3º Theosis). The sound composition is very rich, in both instrumental and atmospheric spectre. Visual artwork (at least on vinyl edit.) is beautiful and meaningful too. Words and hymns are full of knowledge. And the list goes beyond. So... why??

I wasn't crazy about the previous releases, but this Faustian Ethos is truly special.

New one was a pleasant surprise. Had pretty low expectations since Amarta wasn't very good and they pump out albums very quickly, but it's pretty solid overall.

I think Faustian Ethos is their best release since Vamachara. Much better and more organic than their three previous releases.

Anyone seen them live recently? They're playing 3.5 hours from me and I'm trying to decide if it's worth going.
