Biography

www.alanstarck.com
Alan Starck was Ominim Records 1st signing outside of mainstay Yimino. Alerted to Ominim by a good old fashioned demo tape, his playful and humorous electronics were immediately appealable to the label looking for new talent.

Alan was born in Hammersmith before escaping to the council estates of Suffolk. He had early career advice to be a "wig maker" at school but luckily didn't follow it through.

March 2013 was the month of his latest release, the album 'Tales From The Control Room'

On a recent trip to a wonderful derelict MOD Jet Engine Research Facility I stumbled across some amazing old control rooms. Whilst sitting amongst the dust, peeling and old relics, I gazed at the dials, knobs and switches picturing the noise and activity here, when things were once active. I imagined that this was in fact a top secret facility for creating ambient sounds and pulsing electronic beats. Crazy scientists programming the panels to concoct new acoustic sensations, day and night. The tunes on my new album are those that could have possibly been emanating out of these beautiful machines.

His previous big release was the upbeat 'My Tokyo Suburban NIghts" Album released in Novemeber 2011.
On this he said-
"Inspiration for my new album came from my interest in the colour and eccentricities of Japanese culture. Having never been lucky enough to actually go to Japan yet, my musical interpretation had to be based on how I imagine it to be. Given my personal fascination of seeing and sensing the backwaters and unusual off zone locals of an area I began to imagine the suburban areas of Tokyo city where normal life goes on. Here there are the colloquially-named, oddly British-named, suburbs. One hosting the delightful Chikuma Club which plays frenzied ecstatic electro-bleeps to crowds of dancing young revelling locals.

I feel this album represents a gradual evolution of my musical style, with a move towards an upbeat feel. I have focused on using washes of sound to fill the music with an ambiance to fit the subject.
As always, I try and keep my music lighthearted and fill it with samples I make to keep it fun. If you listen carefully you'll hear the chuckles, snorts and shifts I recorded to build up the sound. On a couple of tracks eg Newteq, youll get a glimpse of my darker more melancholy side which is the other facet of my music."

Already, the experience I have gained producing this album has spurred me on to new ideas and I'm eagerly thinking about the next musical adventure."

His first ambient album titled 'Farrago' which was released on the label in March 2010. The EP 'Electrica' was released in November 2010 and the EP 'Funner' was released in February 2011.
