Biography

Throughout the ages, it has been widely rehearsed that when writing music, simplicity captures attention. Listeners look for the calrity in their entertainment, something that they can attach themselves to, simplicity is a musicians best friend. So when it comes to Alaska & Me’s new EP, Actors, the drive to become simple seems almost effortless. No frills, or extensive post-production work just the music, and that is what has captured my attention.

The Show Low based Indie rockers, have an almost cyclical sentiment that have you asking yourself, “Haven’t heard this before?” And the truth is, you probably have, but that is the drawback of simplicity. Though Alaska & Me are very talented musicians, their music blends from a very popular genre, of whom some of their influences are Counting Crows, Matchbox Twenty & Goo Goo Dolls (which is not bad company at all).

This unique blend of musicianship really gives their listeners a break from the more complex, compound music that flourishes within the Arizona music scene. Some singles that resonate from the album are “In Your Shoes,” a song, form the outside looking in, sings about the end of indifferent relationship with two people seeking two different paths in life. “Hard Month and a Harder Choice,” takes the reflective look at a missed relationship as well.

Actors EP is a great starting point for a band that is slowly up and coming in the Arizona scene. Through the simplicity of Alaska & Me’s arrangements, listening is easy, and with careful preparation this band could immerse from Show Low and the greater Phoenix area, with a great following.
