Biography
Alex Brittan is a singer-songwriter and pianist/ukulelist from Perth, Western Australia. Trained as a classical pianist up until his teacher refused to let him learn pop songs, Alex abandoned sheet music and taught himself everything by ear, including a bit of ukulele and guitar along the way.
Best described as acoustic folk-pop meets rhythm-and-blues/blue-eyed soul, Alex recorded and mixed his debut EP (Play Dead) over a period of three months. Inspired by the DIY musicianship of artists such as Sufjan Stevens, Elliott Smith, Regina Spektor and Tune-Yards, “Play Dead” was recorded entirely in a tiny bedroom during late 2012, and features Alex on harmonica, guitar, ukulele, piano and percussion.
