I think I have the not on label version of Mass I aswell but I'll have to dig out a hard drive for that. I guess we knew the pieces fit cause we watched them fall away. I think Jane Doe might possibly be the most overrated album in metalcore, but dont tell the Converhoes that hehe.

Ahhh yes so as you said where does the elusive Prayer VII remain?! Lost in the void I'd wager. I'll have to familarise myself with Converge discography again but I always remember Jane Doe being underwhelming compared to the hype. Is post-metalcore screamo Tool just "Progressive real sludgecore?"

Never been able to get into this band, their songs just seem boring and drag on forever. What is best album to listen to?

I said it before, I'll say it again: most intense live band on the planet. Saw them performing 8 times from 2007-2023, in venues packing 200 to 2000 people, as support, headliner or at festivals, and they've not once been less than fantastic. LOUD as fuck (though sounding crystal clear), HEAVY as fuck, with insane vocals by Colin and great visuals / lighting. Somewhere around 2016 I thought Amenra could become heirs to the throne of Neurosis, at least in terms of uncompromising live shows; now that Neurosis are dead, it's not even a question.

Hot take: De Doorn is their best yet (I prefer V2). Though, must be said, it helps that I'm Dutch and thus can understand everything he's saying.

i actually really dont mind that i don't understand the lyrics. the way that both colin and caro do the vocals already carries a lot of very intense emotion. on top of that, this way i am free to just project whatever mental state i want to into the tracks without having any notation by the lyrics what the track is about. also love celeste despite speaking no real french. i do generally like extreme music for those reasons. i don't need to understand what theyre screaming, it actually opens a layer to the music that bands where i understand the lyrics can not open.

Great comment! Makes me think I agree with you, in the way that I think most screams and growls are intelligible (unless you read along to the lyrics).

Just checked here to see if there was any feedback to their The Mirror performance, instead found out about an Alternate Mix of De Doorn. Not that I ever thought there's anything wrong about the original master in particular I decided to check it out when I find the time and now it's 4am and holy shit, what just happened. It somehow manages to transform the entire album into something even more devastating (could partially also be attributed to the booze and weed in my system, though). The only real con I found is that the deep vocal overdubs on 'oontmoedigt voorgoedt' in Het Gloren are barely audible or even non-existent. All in all, a good day.

Voor Immer was the only sour spot in the original, but the new mix definitely addresses that with shining colours, good to know the band cares enough to do another master

I own the Vol.1 and it is still wrapped in the plastic foil as I have too many CDs and vinyl to go through, but based on the Bandcamp preview, Vol.2 is more dynamic and gut wrenching...I still have not ordered the new mix, but the beers are flowing so I don't know how the story ends...

These guys make good music but i swear it takes way too long to get to the meat in their songs.

Glad I held off on listening to any tracks in advance. Once again sublimely paced, a really impressive follow-up to Mass VI. Also really glad they not only incorporated the spoken word segments more directly into the music but that they also stuck to flemish throughout the entire thing. I dunno why, but it not only complements the music rather nicely phonetically but it feels even more personal and intimate that way. Colin & Caro are amazing on this, as is the rest of the band. Some of these climaxes have to be among the most intense they ever did. Very strong AOTY contender for sure. Also came right around the perfect time for me.
