Biography

“Some bands we were hearing had no idea who had influenced their sound or that music even existed before Def Leppard”, joked American Peacemakers guitarist/vocalist Tomasi John Montana. This attitude fuels a band that plays original rock ‘n’ roll pulled from the roots of American music. The Tennessee-based band’s unapologetically stripped down approach to songwriting and arranging shines through on the 10 original songs off their self-titled debut album. “Our sound is roots-based and our songs reflect real life and real people, but we wanted this album to have a rock n roll feel”, explained vocalist/guitarist Rusty Brown.

Along with Montana and Brown, American Peacemakers consist of Jimmy Ownby on bass and Mitch Jackson on drums.

Their rowdy live shows and attention to vintage tone had already gained the band a dynamic following by the time they headed into Knoxville’s Shed 55 Studio with Dave Dewitt. After a few takes they found that their favorite tracks were cut live as a band with small Fender tube amps. “It sounds like four guys in a room, because that’s what it was,” said Ownby. The band then had the opportunity to travel to Atlanta, Georgia, to have the album mastered by Southern music legend Rodney Mills.

American Peacemakers is available on iTunes and other online distributors, but the band prefers that physical copies be bought in local record stores whenever possible. “We’re all about local business, but some of our online sales have been to people in Europe. I guess we can’t blame them for not finding us in their local record stores.”
With the release of their self-titled debut album, American Peacemakers are proving to be a spearhead in the resurgence of roots-based rock music.
