Блин, а они на самом деле очень крутые - это не слишком очевидный факт, если начать слушать не с тех альбомов, поскольку нудятины, от которой тянет зевать, тоже было, чего таить. Holiday Inn Gainesville, People Who Can Eat People..., Can't Maintain, сплит с Partners In 818 - вот они слева направо, альбомы которые однозначно рекомендуются к прослушиванию, да и новиночку, вышедшую месяц назад тоже не забываем, весьма достойный релиз после пары слабоватых работ за последние годы.

They at least could have come up with an actual new name, instead of going for one that's an acronym for the former moniker they now consider offensive/ in bad taste. For one, it's like a band called "Ni***r" distancing themselves from their previous name by changing it to "N-word". More importantly, 'AJJ' is just lame. If I came across an artist called "VLJ" I probably wouldn't feel enticed to put them on, and strangely that's what it's like for me now, as a long-time listener...

Hahahahahaha nice hypothetical, you fucking knob. Just TYPE the n-word like you know you want to. There’s plenty of precedent in music of bands changing their names to an acronym of a former name and have it “not mean anything” — and you’re not literally saying a horrible fucking slur when you say the words “Andrew Jackson” and “jihad” don’t be intentionally fucking obtuse

Nice screed, unhinged Antifa Jesus. You'll now have to decide whether you want to embrace the '0-fucks given' badass-side of your persona, or the 'a censored word without context offends me' fragility that appears to hold equal sway over your evidently highly volatile emotions. Or just take your meds and enjoy a restful nap.

Well, the band in question deliberately chose the name "Andrew Jackson Jihad" and used it for the majority of their career while maintaining their socio-political stance, I assume. So saying you have no business listening to their music if you like the previous name more is just silly (also, I didn't know you need to request permission to listen to a specific band). I do agree that it's dumb to get offended over a band changing their name though. Why would anyone think that they get a vote in what name someone releases their music under? You're always free to stop listening to them if your feelings are hurt that badly.

If you’re offended by the name change because it’s too “”cancel culture”” for you, then yes, I think it’s safe to say you have no business listening to a band who are pretty openly SJW in a scene of music that has always been political and leftist. Unless you’re such a fucking empty cynic that you just listen to it for the chordz n great on-pitch singing and the ideological content prevalent throughout is meaningless white noise to you . Also are you *really* claiming people’s views and stances can’t evolve and improve and gain more nuance and depth over time — or that such a change is equivalent to being disingenuous to “who you were” or something? What a stunted understanding of maturity you have

So did they change their name because Andrew Jackson is offensive or Jihad is offensive?

I generally try to avoid learning too much about an artist under the impression that I'll like them less/more based on something other than their music. The fact that I used to like these guys a lot before I started reading about them as people (I'd ignore those whiny songs like American Tune is how) has only cemented that idea.

Explain? Are they jerks? I've seen a few live music clips of the band, and I got the impression they were genuinely nice folk.

Punk band... what do you expect?! I mean, most punk bands seem to be socially liberal. Maybe that has something to do about it. But then again, those who complain usually find something to complain about. (Sorry, I forgot about this new last.fm reply system)

Sean and Preston had super long conversations with me after a show and didn't try to shut me up or act like they needed to go soon. So, yeah.. they're nice. Sean even said me and my friend were super nice and that I had a good taste in music. Preston also talked with me about Sun City Girls for a long time so and said I was the only fan of theirs he's met at a show. So, Yeah... Nice dudes.

Well all in all it was a good PR move. People are noticing their output much more now that it's fashionable to hate them.

I stopped taking them seriously when they became Politically Correct and when sean said some of the edits in his songs were because his girlfriend wasnt happy with the original words

They never were a very serious band to begin with. In liner notes of an reissue release of their older stuff Sean mentions that he won't play older stuff because he's embarrassed about it ever since his grandmother heard those songs on youtube. This was years ago before the name change.
