Anna Dolores King (1937 -2002). In her childhood she started singing in church. Through her teens and early twenties she was with various gospel groups. Her first recording and release was in 1961, "In Between Tears / So In Love With You". 1963 the gospel influenced, James Brown written, 'If Somebody Told You" reached both R&B and pop charts. 1964 a duet, "Baby Baby Baby", with Bobby Byrd turned into a soul classic. After some recordings and touring with a band, she was asked to join Duke Ellington for his concerts. With Ellington she returned back to gospel music. After becoming a minister, she basically gave up singing.
