Biography

ANTONELLI, also known as Stefan Schwander from Düsseldorf, has been a prominent figure in German electronic minimal music for more than 25 years. He is highly regarded alongside renowned artists such as The Modernist, Wolfgang Voigt, and Thomas Brinkmann. Through his various aliases like A Rocket In Dub, Repeat Orchestra, Rhythm Maker, Pop Up, Swimmingpool, and Antonelli, he continues to inspire both producers and DJs across generations.

Since the mid-1990s, ANTONELLI has been creating cutting-edge electronic music. His evident love for disco is evident in his flawlessly energetic dance grooves and occasional catchy refrains. Similar to the best tracks by Giorgio Moroder, his basslines drive beneath a steady beat, while the melody elevates the whole composition into a state of ecstasy.

Many of his releases also showcase ANTONELLI's experimental side. Although primarily dance-oriented, his tracks incorporate elements of dub and modern abstract electronic music. Through sound manipulation, he achieves unexpected tones and intriguing rhythmic complexities. His music demonstrates elaborate and intricate works of captivating minimalism, ranging from dancefloor hits like the albums Me, The Disco Machine and Click, to the gentle and beautiful ambient arrangements found in his soundtrack album The Blackout Quintet, released on the ITALIC label.

ANTONELLI is Schwander's primary project, and he has dedicated considerable time in recent years to performing live in cities as diverse as Tokyo, Barcelona, Madrid, Paris, Moscow, London, and Copenhagen.

In addition to his live performances, he is actively engaged in remixing and has collaborated with notable artists such as Michael Mayer, Freestyle Man, Farben, Lawrence, Steve Bug, Egoexpress, Elektro Musik Department, Oliver Hacke, Error Error, and Mondo Grosso, among others.
