"Welcome to the Opera" is a collaborative electronic music track released by Canadian, Grimes, and Anyma, the moniker of electronic music producer Matteo Milleri (one-half of the renowned Italian electronic music duo Tale of Us). Grimes teased the arrival of "Welcome to the Opera" for over a year, and the song was part of her live performances even before its official release. The anticipation around the track was heightened because of her recent collaborations and innovations in music production.
In "Welcome to the Opera," Grimes provided her own vocals, a departure from her recent endeavors with artificial intelligence (AI) in music. The song came shortly after news that Grimes had parted ways with Columbia Records. She joined the label in 2021 and released two singles through it, namely "Player of Games" and "Shinigami Eyes."
