Biography
Winner of the 'Best New Hip Hop Act' at 2004's Diesel U Music Awards; MC Aphletik hails from Long Beach, California. Aphletik (aka Jacob Oshinowo) originally came to London in 1996 to enquire about studying at University here, rather than his native USA. Returning in 1997 with the best of academic intentions, he instead ended up becoming completely immersed in the UK hip hop scene.
He brought out his first record in the year 2000 together with his partner in crime Fade, self-pressed and distributed under the name PSI. A track of remarkably high quality, PSI's 'Regardless' caught the attention of many London hip hop heads, including the Bone Idols who passed on some of their beats. Not long after, Aphletik and Fade started recording with the Bone Idols, however Fade followed a different musical direction, leaving Aphletik as the Bone Idols in-house MC.
Aphletik has also been active on the live circuit, last year alone he supported US acts Fabulous, Fat Joe, Talib Kweli, Pharcyde, Pharaohe Monch and Jaylib, as well as opening for UK soundscapers Bonobo.
Aphletik is currently putting the finishing touches to his scintillating debut album alongside dynamic UK producers, The Bone Idols (touted as the "British Neptunes"). Effortlessly breaking down the barriers of US & UK hip hop, electronica, acoustic blues grime and Dixie-land jazz, he creates his own distinct sound… REAL LIFE MUSIC!
