R U Mine? is the lead single for the 5th studio album AM, released February 27, 2012 as a digital download in the UK. Then released physically for the Record Store Day on April 21, 2012 on a limited 7' vinyl, along with a new song Electricity as the B Side. The vinyl has a limited number of copies made so it's very hard to find it. R U Mine?: delves into the relationship between casual flirtation and addictive lust, with Alex describing himself as just a “puppet” for her, completely under her control and compulsively begging for her affection. Electricity: describing the sexual desire he as for a girl. This desire is the Electricity.

What Alex Turner said to NME about R U Mine?:

'There’s a few references for people to pick up on in there—‘Some Velvet Morning’, Tracy Island. Those references are just me being a smartarse. The song, not to get too heavy, is about that uncertainty that comes with love sometimes. Wondering where you are with it all. That’s the undertone for the tune, but I threw in a Thunderbirds reference too. Just because.

That particular bit is like the thing Lil Wayne and Drake do. We’ve been listening to a lot of their stuff recently. I like that thing they do where they talk about something backwards, so they talk about it but then say what it actually is on the next line. It’s hard to explain but I guess it’s a little nod to that idea. So I say, ‘I’m a puppet on a string’, just before mentioning Tracy Island. That’s what it’s about—uncertainty."

The song was first played live on March 3, 2012, just days after it's release at the Joe Louis Arena, MI, USA. It is usually played at the end of their concerts as the last song of the encore. It has been played live over 400 times, making it one of their most performed songs. While Electricity has never been played live.

R U Mine? was supposed to be a standalone single but then was recorded for the album AM, the sound being ever so slightly different from the 2012 recording. When it first came out it reached number 23 on the UK Singles Chart, making it their highest single charting since "Crying Lightning". The music video is one of their most viewed with over 300 million views on YouTube. R U Mine? is also a 3 times platinum single in the UK. Overall , R U Mine? is one of their most beloved songs by many listeners
