“God is a woman” is the second single from Ariana Grande’s fourth studio album, Sweetener, which refers to the pleasures of sex and, consequently, encourages the message of female sexual liberation and domination. The track was teased in her “no tears left to cry” music video, and was hinted again in the “no tears left to cry (BTS – Part 2)” video. It follows the lead single, No Tears Left To Cry, and promotional single The Light is Coming.

The music video consists in a plethora of allusions to religion and art. This consists of Michaelangelo’s “Creation of Adam," the statue of “The Thinker,” “Romulus and Remus,” “The Pantheon,” the mythological Cerberus, among others. One of Ariana’s most impactful role models, Madonna, also makes an appearance in the music video by reciting a famous Pulp Fiction quote which is an interpretation of the Bible verse 25:17 from the Book of Ezekiel. Grande also nods to the pop icon by wearing the famous “Cone Bra” from the “Blond Ambition World Tour.”
