it may be dumbed down n' all, its influence may be cancer and I may like it less than the previous 3 albums but I'll be damned if it's not tighter than ur little sister/daughter/brother/pet's pussy

The most unforgivable part about this album is that they used Papyrus on the cover.

At the Gates dumbed down for the masses. If the earlier releases from this band are too complex for you, try this more condensed and streamlined version. It goes down easy without much thought.

"uncool and unwanted" must be how you feel everywhere outside of this site. it's funny how people project on the internet.

This one has punchier production than the early albums and is plain more fun to listen to. I do not care if tr00 metalheads think that's uncool.

Any fool who thinks this lp is better than the first two releases of ATG, should just stop listening to metal in general. Also you were probably still in diapers when both those lps came out in early 90s.

"The Red in The Sky is ours' riffs > Slaughter of the Soul's riffs. They improved alot with the growls between that time, tho!

Regardless of this album's quality, saying it's bad for spawning metalcore is moronic.

For those that love the guitar and bass tone, melodies and thrashy riffs of this album: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b5UdDXRwYsg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6_eL8kIv5g Jesper Stromblad and Glenn Lungjstrom (ex-In Flames) are back!

Gotta say though this is their best effort (which is actually quite good). And i usually tend to not like melodeath. Comparing "The Red in The Sky..." and its awful riffs and those awful sounding high pitched "growls" with Slaughter of the Soul, Slaughter of the Soul wins! Even though this album spawned crappy bands like Arch Enemy.

"HATE" is the word that most properly discribes this masterpiece. The lyrics are just amazings statements of misanthropy, and beyond the "HATE" I think that they describes a feeling of deception for mankind. If Sartre, Nietzsche or Schopenhauer would had listened listen to this, they probably would love it!! 'Humanity - the living end, a walking disease Beyond good and evil, the flames of the end inside us'
