Nothing can touch the zenith these guys reached with "A Death-Grip On Yesterday." Two great records followed it, but that was the peak for Atreyu.

hate to break it to you but they all ripped off melodeath bands. atreyus a lot less whiny compared to bullet at least.

as i lay dying writes better music than both. without as whiny vocals. and bullet really isn't as good as you're making them up to be. as i lay dying pretty much only took influence from melodeath and metalcore. post hardcore has barely any ties to as i lay dying. that strain of melodic metalcore completely branched off at the gates riffing.

metal influenced by punk! maybe that's why the songs are fast and short, they have a lot of influences! i love the 80s metal influences on the curse \m/

"If a play is counted after thirty-seconds of listening time, then artists are not incentivized to make longer songs. The more financially informed approach would be to record more material that is shorter, thus earning more money. A five-minute song earns as much as a two-minute song, but listeners can play multiple two-minute songs in the same amount of time, which means they can earn more money." Here's the article: https://www.hypebot.com/hypebot/2019/06/how-the-spotify-sound-is-changing-music.html

i thought that too. After the first listen of "Saves Us" and "Warrior" i believed i was going to hate the album. I admit it takes a while to adjust to this sound, but after maybe the 5th or 6th time listening to it, doesn't sound terrible

Ended up enjoying Baptize. It sounds modern, and yes very commercial (not in the worst way possible) but it's impossible to not miss Alex... At the same time, let's be realistic: Alex's departure makes sense considering the direction they took with "In Our Wake" and the fact that he's always been a hardcore mf

Yeah I was hoping for more of a Runaway vibe instead of the Do Ya Think I'm Sexy approach they've taken

Tried so hard to like the new song but just can't. Seems so soulless without Alex and the absence seems so obvious. I'll be checking Alex's no project but idk just feels wrong without him. They're still solid musically but it's like the passion's gone or something and they're tying to reinvent themselves for the pure sake of it but just sound sterile in the process.

Looks like they old stuff was considered garbage back there and it also didn't aged well lol but in the other hand they new records are pretty well acclaimed for the fans and same for the review... good for them

The whole cock rock party attitude they've adopted recently works well with the Orange County Metalcore roots. Watching the Rock AM Ring stream this summer they quite literally mopped the floor with Trivium in terms of energy, stage presence and crowd participation. Based on what I saw I'd happily go see them live since they can clearly put on a solid show. Plus would make my inner 14 year old self happy hahaha

Upon further thought on this I have decided to dub this band as Orange County Bon Jovicore

Instrumental version of The Curse is hilarious because the backing vocal tracks are still on there...
