This album is like a minimalistic announcement for most of their future staff: "Ok, guys, we're doing this now. Are you on board?"

I saw them performing live just couple of weeks after releasing this album. Concert was placed in an old coal mine which was restored and turned into an art gallery. Huge, post industrial hall where everything sounded great. Only few songs were sampled from that album (i remember The Plc) into their set, however sometimes it's hard to recognize it, so probably i have missed a lot. Overall - great memory.

As per album i have however few things i don't particulary like. It was a major departure from direction they followed on their abstratct trilogy (Confield, Draft 7.30, Untilted) for a shorter and sometimes simplier forms, but sometimes i feel like it's just a mish mash of different things they were working on then without any major idea behind. So although i like all songs separatly they don't work that well as a whole. I find as much better Quaristice.Quadrange.ep.ae. Still i like it a lot and last 2 songs are among best ambient works they ever made.

One of my favorites from Autechre. Beautiful textures that engulf the listener. Particularly good on headphones, as with many Autechre records.

You're in a blue chamber containing twenty labeled doors. You can't quite put your finger on the chamber's dimensions. One by one, you open the doors, watch objects morph and bounce around inside, close them and move on to the next one. Each room seems different from the last. As you close the final door and turn back to exit the chamber, the doors aren't there anymore. And then you wake up. [4] The only person getting close to what this album is. [3]

as much as you guys hate it, you have to admit that you've never heard (and will never hear) anything like Quaristice.

By this time they're up to all manner of screwing around with you just because they can. It's a pretty fun ride.

The tracks are short enough for a quick Autechre fix when you're feeling too lazy / busy to sit still and listen for longer than 3 minutes and a half.

I reckon this mixed bag is really refreshing and exactly the right sort of work to release when they did. They'd pretty much reached the limit of their post-LP5 sound with Untilted, so they had to get a fresh pallet to work with. At first the compositions may sound a little unfinished, but upon closer inspection I think they still feel just as carefully constructed as before, perhaps just a little less severe and intently focused. For that reason it reminds me a little of EP7.
