“NEW ORLEANS” serves as the intro-track to BROCKHAMPTON’s fourth studio album, iridescence.
Recorded at the famous Abbey Road Studio in London, and produced by bearface, Jabari Manwa, and Romil Hemnani, “NEW ORLEANS” seems to be inspired by the 2005 track “Fireman” from Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter II. The title is likely a reference to Lil Wayne’s hometown of New Orleans.
Throughout “NEW ORLEANS” there are mentions to BROCKHAMPTON’s rise to stardom—this is portrayed in Kevin Abstract’s chorus:
"Tell ‘em boys, don’t run from us
I been down too long, cousin
I been down too long, brother
Tell the world, I ain’t scared of nothin’
Tell the world, I ain’t scared of jumpin'"
Additionally, this song also marks the first collaboration between BROCKHAMPTON and rapper Jaden Smith.
The music video, filmed at the Sydney screening of The Longest Summer in America on September 27, and released the next day. The video features the performers (with the exception of Jaden Smith) performing their verses, with audience members moshing around them. Members of the group asked audience members to wear black t-shirts to the event, causing some to suspect the filming of a music video.
