Biography
Formed in 2002, New Delhi based Barefaced Liar is an amalgamation of the distinct and eclectic musical taste of its members, Akshay Chowdhry (Vocals, Guitars), Sumant Balakrishnan (Guitars, Vocals) and Dushyant Purohit (Bass, Guitars). The band is heavily influenced by all time classic sounds of bands and artists such as Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Metallica while leaning towards a more modern sound in the style of Tool, Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots etc. This combination of influences backed by a loaded blues driven guitar style that developed over the years led to a unique east-west dynamic that has translated into complete and relevant songwriting on an international level. Over the past few years, the band has recorded a number of demos in studios in Delhi and Bombay. Tracks such as the all powerful “Out of my League”, the ethereal “Carnation”, the drum ‘n bass-hard rock mix of “Tether” and new tracks such as ‘To The Alamo’ and ‘Valium’ and many other songs showcase the unique chemistry of the band. In 2007, the band’s drummer Tushar Vig left the band to pursue his studies. The vacancy was then filled by Nikhil Vasudevan, who joined the band in late 2007. With a twin guitar offensive, haunting bass lines and thumping rhythms, Barefaced Liar is all set to impress in a live setting.
