(2/25/08): “The chords and the melody came out of me one day, and suddenly the word ‘Devotion’ came out. As Alex and I were embellishing the song, he was figuring out his parts and everything, the word ‘Devotion’ was sticking out a lot. We had a title for the record that we thought would be good, and it was one word. We definitely wanted to have one word; we didn't want to have something thick. ‘Devotion.’ We just kept saying that and bringing up the theme. The more I was thinking about it, the more it made sense. A lot of the lyrical content deals with love, absence, journeys and looking for something or someone—all these kind of things. The lyrics of ‘All the Years,’ involve working, waiting and patience. It's about doing your part. You don't want to lie, but you know that you're compelled to do it for some reason—and that might be your heart. Everything sort of clicked together. The devotion is the little cherry on the milkshake. Sort of like the final stamp or something, you know what I mean?” ~ Victoria, ARTISTdirect
(2/20/18): {All The Years was written in} another practice space where, in a twist of questionable karma, their fellow tenants turned out to be loud metal bands. “We couldn’t hear what we were doing.” ~ Alex, VinylMePlease
(2/20/18): “I’m very proud of that song.” ~ Victoria, VinylMePlease
