“Take Care”, bookends Teen Dream with what seems like promises to her younger self, and the listener: “I’d take care of you” she sings like a nightingale taking flight.

The song was ripped off in a Volkswagen ad: after Beach House refused to license the song, a German company hired Sniffy Dog to create a similar song.

The song has also been played in an episode of New Girl (S1 E15), The Good Doctor (S1 E2), 13 Reasons Why (S4 E10) and Chemical Hearts.

Victoria Legrand explaining to The Guardian why the duo decided to finish the album with this song:

"That song is definitely in its right place at the end. I think it’s definitely an intense song. The way that it keeps going until it leaves you or you leave it, means a lot about the future. This record is not a nostalgic record, necessarily. It’s not just melancholic. It’s not just languid. It’s other things, and I think as much as it has more sexuality in it perhaps, it still has darkness in it of course. I’m sure there’s still heartbreak. I think there’s a little future in it. That’s something that I don’t think we played with before. I always compare it to the energy of ‘10 Mile Stereo.’ It’s lancing you into something new or exciting. I don’t think that’s a specific direction we would go in. For that time, it was giving us an energy that propelled us forward. So, we’ll see what happens."

"It was a crazy moment. We didn’t give them the song, and they made a very similar song to replace it. The worst thing is that it feels like something close to what we made. A feeling and a sentiment and an energy has been copied and is being used to sell something we didn’t want to sell."

– Alex Scally on The New York Times

(12/3/09): “I rarely write the melodies {of our songs}. With this song, I wrote the melody and I gave it to Victoria, and I gave all these different images I’d been seeing in my head, and it was such an amazing process to give her this melody and these images and have her take it and run to this whole completely appropriate but different direction with it. This song, for me, is this beautiful reflection of Victoria and I’s relationship of moving information and ideas and feelings back and forth; and it’s the farewell of the whole album.” ~ Alex, WOW
(12/3/09): “It’s very interesting to write lyrics for someone else’s melody. It’s like a crazy fusion.” ~ Victoria, WOW
