Biography
Beataroundabush is a musical group that believes in breaking boundaries and shattering limitations. The group is composed of Andrew Bomani Robinson and Randy “Jayare” Johnson. Combined, they are songwriters, emcees, singers, poets, graphic designers, video directors, promoters, and producers, and whatever else they deem necessary for success.
Though they seek out and enjoy the collaborative experience of working with others, from the first notes played, to the words being written, to the project getting mastered and released, all phases of production are carried out primarily by these two individuals. Their belief that their music must be either created their way or not at all, stems as much from their uncompromising love of music as it does their upbringing.
Both Bomani, and Jayare were born and raised in the East Bay area of Northern California. Growing up they were exposed to an eclectic musical environment that included Sly and the family stone, Nina Simone, Donny Hathaway, groups like Earth Wind and Fire and Rose Royce, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, and Hip-hop pioneers Run DMC, N.W.A., De La Soul, Digital underground, and Public Enemy just to name a few. The result is a sound that is always unique, lyrically rich and authentic, and musically soulful.
At the same time that the duo was learning from this amazing roster of musicians, both were growing up in the midst of the Crack epidemic of the 1980’s. The gritty realities of daily survival in Oakland, Berkeley, and Richmond California were etched into their psyches at an early age, and each sought a combination of basketball, music and the written word as refuge.
When they first met in college, they found that in many ways their lives and history ran parallel to each other. It would take more than a decade of experimenting and growing before the duo was confidently ready to give their music to the world, but once that point had been reached there was no turning back.
Since their first writing collaboration in the mid 90’s, innovations in technology have given artists more control of their product than ever before, and Beataroundabush is determined to follow a creative path of self-determination. They have chosen to harness the power of today’s new media to break the creative and financial bonds that once enslaved artists to major record labels.
With the keys to the car now in hand, they are committed to following their own path of creative realization, and taking their music as far as their talents and efforts will allow. With a foundation based upon some of the most daring and bold visionaries in all of music, expect Beataroundabush to continue to violate the norms, shatter stereotypes, and obliterate expectations each and every time they create something new.
