Those who are looking for short, catchy pop songs.. this new album isn't for you. Zach has moved on. Hadsel is gorgeous as a whole.

I think characterizing his older stuff as short, catchy pop songs isn't a fair assessment of their discography whatsoever. I am a fan of longer, more drawn out music for sure. But Hadsel, at least sonically, doesn't capture anything special to me. Maybe the lyrics are incredible. I haven't read through them yet. But this weird fronting the portion of Beirut fans who do not care for Hadsel as "looking for short, catchy pop songs" lmao. I can smell your lack of shower through the screen.

beirut was a collective hallucination, whoever’s releasing music under that name now is an imposter

Other way around, unfortunately. This new stuff is more authentic and not a boy playing dress up anymore.

Listening to Ocarina of Time and all I can hear in most of the OG video game tracks, besides my childhood, is Beirut.

Not only the Balkans, but almost all continental Europe, imo. Zach with Beirut really captured the essence of the popular/folk music from different european countries, and even if the gypsy/balkan sound is the most relevant, you can hear some other influences in all his works. That's impressive for a guy from Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Gallipoli restored my faith in Beirut. Missed those bright horn and trumpet codas so badly!

Gallipoli is the most soothing album I've listened to this year. Simply amazing!!!

Well, not the best album. Too synths, too pop, a little too boring. Sadly, I still believe: "No No No" < "Gallipoli" < every previous beautiful stuff
