I love this bonkers 5-minute solo on an electric kit Bruford does here (touring with Japanese guitarist Kazumi Watanabe): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQKDRed7QLc&t=3033

Palmer and Bruford are both great, but Bruford played in two of the greatest progressive bands ever.

"I believe you make music for the beauty of your soul, your realization of life, and the joy of making music." - Jon Anderson of Yes talks about the spiritual inspirations behind the likes of "And You And I," "Long Distance Runaround" and "Starship Troopers," which Anderson thinks of as his "search for truth and search for an understanding of what God truly is." Anderson also speaks of his return to the band in the 1980s, when Yes became unlikely MTV stars, all thanks to "Owner Of A Lonely Heart": http://www.songfacts.com/blog/interviews/jon_anderson_of_yes/

Bruford for the solo albums obviously, except for the Master Strokes 1978-1985 compilation.

I cannot say he is the best drummer ever, because I haven't listened to all drummers ever. But he certainly is my favorite.

javier, i'd have to say it's between Bruford and Palmer... such a tough choice because I love the music Bruford makes so much better, but you have GOT to respect the talent of Carl Palmer. Seriously. The man is a beast. That being said, I'd have to go with Bruford anyway, because anyone who has been in both Yes and King Crimson should have a national holiday in their honor.

@Kosenko111: seconded... Anyway, I feel quite honored having my birthday just on day after Bill Bruford and two days after Billy Cobham (16th of May). May seems to be the month of the greatest drummers ;-) Happy Birthday "Broof"!

Was able to get Bruford to sign my 'LTIA' CD slip when I saw KC at the Mann Music Center in Philly back in '96.
