So I guess they confirmed that Andy is back. Along with Clay and Eric Beaudry. The saga continues! Or something. https://www.facebook.com/Black-Pyramid-49292323952/?fref=nf

Also, I listened to Palace in Thunderland a little bit, and they sound really good; there's a definite BP's influence mixed with other styles. I hope we'll hear/see more from them.

I agree. What I listened sounds way too generic and pretty forgettable, imo. I think Open the Gates has a nice hook, but it doesn't go anywhere from there. The only cool thing about this new 7" is the artwork lol, I like that kind of art-style.

Ouch. Got the 7" because I'm a completist. New songs are not good. The first is generic and the second is a total throwaway. This band is done and in its death throes.

This poser in this shit band played me there new single. It sucked in ways they hadn't learned to suck yet. Then he flipped it and the B side sucked even worse. Can't believe how bad theyy've all gotten. No words for it.

I did end up running into him and we talked. He isn't resentful and he even keeps in touch with Clay Neely. He also lives near the original bassist and talks to him. Based on what he said I think you are right, and that there's no way that he would ever go back to doing Black Pyramid. I'm not sure it's good they keep Black Pyramid going. It isn't Black Pyramid anymore, they have a new drummer so none of the members are original. And there's only the three guys.

@Bitoffinger It's nice to know that he's still into music and staying active, and being happy with it. I'll definitely check out that band. It's just I've seen comments to BP's songs on youtube from supposedly Andy, and (if it really was him lol, not somebody else), he was talking a lot about how unhappy he was, how he glad that BP with him was done, and that he does not want to go back to it. He did however talked a little about song-writing and musicianship process in comments, too. Maybe it changed for him. I think it's good that Darryl and rest of the band keep BP going, but again, it just doesn't sound the same anymore. Black Pyramid has a new 7" coming out this year (or maybe already came out, not sure), we'll see.

Andy has been really active in our local music scene. I've seen the last two shows with his new band and they have been unreal, even better than Black Pyramid ever was. You should check out his new band Palace In Thunderland. He has been doing that for a few years now and their new album is even more unique, creative and original. He seems really happy and to be having a lot of fun with his music. I don't think he's resentful at all, but I can ask him when I see him. He's very approachable and easy to talk to.

I just recently got a physical copy of II and just been listening to it over and over again. Nothing beats s/t, Stormbringer, and II. Those albums are so creative, original and rich musically, despite having tons of other influences. They really made these guys stood up among other generic stoner/doom bands. I thought Adversarial was ok, and has some good songs, but it's not even close to what Black Pyramid used to sound like. I have to agree with the others who say that ever since Andy left, they lost what made them unique. It's a dayum shame that these days Andy is so resentful and disinterested music.

I know what you mean LesMouches because I was there when they played their first local show with the new lineup. People were walking out of the venue during their set just shaking their heads in disappointment. It just felt so fake and wrong. They played another local show at an arts space to a near empty room. Only about ten people stuck around for their set. That was it for me. I watched half of their set and left. They were awful. When they had Andy hundreds of people came out to see them. They destroyed audiences in those days. They are a mere shadow of their former glory. They should have known when to throw in the towel.

Black Pyramid were biggest disappointment for me musically upon seeing Hellfest where their performance. I expecting tremendous heavy doom sound live as I have watched all videos of the live songs. Then I see them and is like a cover band! Not even same singer and the guitar was weak sounding. I did not expect this and played these new songs that were terrible. Then heard Adversarial and could not believe was same band. Just so bad does not deserve name of Black Pyramid.

No, it is not heavy at all. It also lacks the character of the other two albums and run of singles. There were always these weird chords, twists in the writing, turns in the structure. Just little things that made the songs sound different and original. That all went out the window with Adversarial. It's far too repetitive and derivative. The guitar tone and the vocals are generic. Everything that made Black Pyramid stand apart from the rest is sadly lacking.

I don't know what people are smoking but Adversarial is not heavy at all. Black Pyramid is dead without Andy and it's obvious he was the heart and soul of the band. The sound went from dark and heavy doom to generic stoner metal. Old Black Pyramid profited heavily from Andy's perfectly fitting and unique voice and guitar tone and both are gone. The new album is not the worst album in history, but it's not anywhere near the same league as the first album which was outstandingly fresh, sinister and heavy and I'll probably never listen to it again since it's this generic.

Adversarial is generic bullshit as this band went from awesome to suck some time again.

Andy is such a talented musician and composer. It is so sad he is not in music anymore.

I listened to the self titled album this morning. It's an amazing debut for certain. The riffs are some of the best and the tone is indeed perfect but what really sets them apart is the chord voicings and melody they employ. Listen to something like Wintermute for example. Who else was doing that in 2009 and who has done it since? The second album only continued that direction with even more ambition and ecclecticism. So it was such a shock that Adversarial was so damned mediocre from start to finish. I'm still not sure what they were thinking, that album made such a huge dent in their legacy. And live, just don't even get me started. I saw them many times in Mass, including the show where they broke a window in a venue from sheer volume and low end. They never even came close to matching that level of intensity once Andy had left the band. Not even close. The couple times I saw them with the new lineup I was so bored that I left. Not the same band, and it's a real shame.

Idk, newest album sounds decent and all, but it does give you a feeling of listening to something like Black Pyramid, but not them. Maybe because of newer singer/guitarist. It's not bad, it just doesn't have the same crushing groove and epicness as the previous albums did. Also, Swing The Scimitar feels kinda outside of overall album's sound, but it's still a sludgy badass fucking song.

The best thing that can be said of their new album is that it's not terrible. It sounds like a band trying very hard to be Black Pyramid and at the same time not hard enough. The songs have many rehashed riffs or just unfocused ideas. It all sounds very phoned in and inauthentic. The five songs and short length just reinforce that feeling. Black Pyramid - II was such a monumental step forward in songwriting and originality, hard to listen to a band backslide into mediocrity within the course of an album. If they called it something else I wouldn't feel as cheated for having bought it, but this just doesn't sound anything like Black Pyramid should.

Black Pyramid II was so, so shockingly awful that I thought they'd never bounce back. But Adversarial is really promising.
