Correct, RyanPC, however, I don't think they were on thier way to get the blood test, I believe they were driving home at the time. They lived across from the studio. The reason the song seems 'wierd', pixienat, may be partly due to the unexplained details, such as 'Gordon Avenue' (the studio was on the corner of Gordon and Sunset in Hollywood); 'what if I can't be deprogrammed' (Jeff was in a local punk band called Deprogramer); the record you can't get 'programmed' refers to a bootleg Blondie record that Jeff ran home to get and brought back to the studio for the band to sign; Etc. BTW: Actually, Jeff was threatening to drive into the building so Susan reached over to step on the break and hit the gas. Oh, and it was an Audi (even more conservaitve!) not a Chevy (guess Chevy sounded better in the song).

Apparently it was inspired by something that really happened while they were recording the album. A guy named Jeffrey wrecked his car into the side of the recording studio when he and his girlfriend Suzy were on their way to get a blood test for a marriage license. Debbie wrote about this in the book Making Tracks: The Rise of Blondie.
