“Five Years” is a comedic love song Bo Burnham dedicated to his girlfriend, where he offers an honest look into the long-term partnership with his lover despite their hilarious adversities, ranging from stories about stealing each other’s food to having trouble with killing a spider.
As pointed out by several fans, the song shares similar parallels to various R&B songs by the Canadian star Drake: in fact, Bo previously performed the song live as an explicit impression of Drake during his stand-up comedy shows at the Largo Theatre in Los Angeles, California, although the building’s strict “no camera” policy has made video evidence limited.
Eventually, Burnham uploaded the studio version of the song on June 3, 2022 as the lead promotional single from the deluxe version of his 2021 album "Inside: The Songs", which constituted the soundtrack of his Netflix special "Inside".
