Fuckin' hell, you got a damn good point about Dylan's "Highway 61 Revisited," don't you? That motherfucker knew how to shake the shit up. Like, who gives a fuck about sticking to one style when you can blast through all that crap and come out with something that's a goddamn revelation, right? So, you think Dylan's switch to that cynical hipster shit was a big middle finger to the folk scene, or was it just another fucking step in the dude's path? And what's your take on the whole poetic rock vibe he blasted out with this album?

I've been listening to both "Blonde on Blonde" and "High 61 Reviseted" for the last couple of weeks and I think "Highway 61 Revisited" is the best album-wise, but don't get me wrong; they're both 10/10.

Once you know all the lyrics it really feels shorter. Certainly made some of my time on the bus much more bearable.

It's a classic, and it's awesome, but musically is far from Blonde on Blonde. That's Dylan's greatest masterpiece IMO

@Lord_Kur What a wonderfully useless contribution to the conversation, as are all of your comments. We actually have very similar tastes, but where you chug from the cock of Dylan without coming up for air, I see the occasional flaw in his work while retaining immense love and respect for it.

This has always been one of my favorite Dylan records and it's also the album that introduced me to his discography. I'd have to disagree about most songs being forgettable though. I mean, "Queen Jane Approximately" and "It Takes A Lot To Laugh..." are stunning and underrated tracks, "Desolation Row" is a masterpiece and my pick for best Dylan song and all the other songs range from very good to great. I agree Blonde On Blonde to be a superior album even though it has more filler.

I may have been a little tough on this album in my previous comment. Rather, I may have made it sound like I didn't think the album was very good. It is. In fact, it's great. It's just that some of the songs sound overly derivative of Rock songs heard elsewhere earlier, and considering Rock music was only 10-12 years old at this point, it's still a landmark album, I just find about 3 or 4 of the songs to be interchangeable and forgettable.

A classic album but I think both its quality and its significance in both Dylan's career and Pop/Rock has been overstated over the years. The previous album was the groundbreaking one, with its side of electric Rock music. The only significant development on this album was that it was all electric, but the electric songs here are less exciting than the ones on Bringing It All Back Home because it's the second time and most of them sound more or less like retreads of the earlier songs. "Like a Rolling Stone," "Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues" and "Desolation Row" are all classic songs but everything else is pretty similar sounding and forgettable. Blonde on Blonde was a huge step forward performance wise and musically, with much more engaging, appealing and distinct arrangements.

What do you mean? The electric side of BIABH isn't the better of that album's two sides or it's not Dylan's best electric side or what? I don't understand your comment,

Okay... and what does that have to do with anything? I never said the electric side of BIABH was better than the acoustic side, just that it was groundbreaking since it was Dylan's first electric material on an album and that Highway 61 wasn't groundbreaking in any way.

Most of Dylan's Lyricism on his 1966 masterpiece Highway 61 Revisited oscillates between the tradition of the modernist literary movement and Dylan's own poetic style. For instance, Desolation Row is Bob Dylan’s crowning achievement in songwriting. Although many of Dylan’s best songs are poetic, few contain the depth of metaphor, and none contain the carefully structured depth and allusions of Desolation Row. T.S. Eliot once wrote: “Poems should communicate before they are understood.” This is precisely what Bob Dylan does in his eleven-minutes long apocalyptic epic poem/song. I love that song, and poetry. I believe the ‘Desolation Row’ that Dylan refers to in the song is actually a metaphor for an enlightened state of mind or awareness of the world as it is, like T. S. Eliot's The Waste Land. This is the only BD album which i like the most... frankly.

This is better and more consistent that Blonde on Blonde, but only because it's not a double-album. A single album Blonde on Blonde would have been his best album for sure
