"Total Eclipse of the Heart" was released on February 11, 1983 in UK and May 31, 1983 in USA, on Columbia Records. It featured on Bonnie Tyler's fifth studio album, Faster Than the Speed of Night (1983). The track was written and produced by Jim Steinman. The original full-length version is slightly over 7 minutes long, but a shorter radio version was produced lasting 4.5 minutes.

2017 - No.1 Again The track became the unofficial anthem for the solar eclipse event on August 21, 2017, with Tyler performing a shortened version (just under 3 minutes, to fit with the duration of the solar eclipse) of the song on board a cruise ship in the Caribbean during the natural phenomenon. The track shot to nuber 1 on the iTunes store and Last.fm's live chart, despite it first being released over 30 years earlier.
