Biography
Book of Maps pound out several routes of math-rock artistry from Portland, Oregon. As a trio of the basic, primal type - guitar, bass, and drums - they concoct pieces that shape-shift, detour, and turn on a note. It's all performed tightly as well, sometimes in the unison of conjunction, or with the three seemingly soloing in cognizance of each other. what separates Book of Maps from standard math-rock is the use of '70s rock stylings: the prog rock sound of the guitar and the occasional keyboards, the free wheelin nature of solos, and the occasional, near anthemic touch of their riffs. However, the screaming vocals of Christopher Baumann have more affinity with hardcore punk.
