Biography

Bourbon Street Mission was a non-existent band, to which one single was credited in 1971: 'Jesus Is Just Alright' b/w 'You Knew How to Hurt a Man', on Horse Records.

Behind the moniker was Scottish singer-songwriter, Shelagh McDonald, who was signed by independent producer Sandy Roberton and came down to London to cut two fine Sandy Denny/Joni Mitchell-inspired albums. She then disappeared abruptly from the scene after a bad drug experience, forcing her parents to come down south and take her back home.

Belated interest in her work saw her albums re-issued with some bonus tracks, including her rendition of 'Jesus Is Just Alright'. Shelagh's version had actually been released at the time as a lone single, credited by Roberton to Bourbon Street Mission, issued by the reggae-based label Horse.
