Brad wrote this song about Kelley Lovelace who has a step son, the basic premise of the song is of a man who falls in love with and marries a woman even though she has a child and takes on the duties of a father even though the child is not his.
The song is from Brad's debut album "Who Needs Pictures" and became his first number one in December 1999 in the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs. It also reached number 25 in the Hot 100.
