I disagree. There is a video on YouTube that shows Timbo shopping his beats to Jay-Z and one of those beats later appeared on this album as the song "Come As You Are." Aaliyah died in 2001, Who Is She 2 U was recorded in 2004. Also, Timbo was working heavily with Justin Timberlake and other artists, he was very much in demand. Aaliyah left a legacy but Timbo wasn't just giving out Aaliyah beats to others, he's versatile and tailors his beat for whoever he works with.

Wow 9 years since I posted that comment lol. Good point, I guess we'll never know unless Timbo himself gives his comments about it... might be an old beat from his vault, might be made for Brandy's album. Care to drop a link for that video you mentioned, sounds interesting.

Sure, the YouTube video I was talking about is called "Inspiration: Jay-Z & Timbaland in the Studio", it has 4 million views, it's a documentary clip where Jay discovers a beat he'd eventually use for "Dirt Off Your Shoulders". The first song Timbo plays for Jay in that clip is what would later be Brandy's "Come As You Are". The beat for "Who Is She 2 U" was also being shopped around that time.

Oh it was definitely intentional, I wasn't saying it was a bad thing at all. I like both songs, but only recently discovered the Brandy version. I always like to know where samples come from and compare the two, so I was just interested when I heard this one and its similarities (and differences) to the Bill Withers classic. One of the main reasons I wrote that was in case other people weren't aware of Withers' song, so they could check it out if they wanted to.

@Rosemary, that was probably her intention to imitate it, just like her track [track artist=Brandy]The Boy Is Mine[/track] with Monica comes from Michael Jackson's [track artist=Michael Jackson]The Girl Is Mine[/track] with Paul McCartney. It just means she likes older artist. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
