This is a whole lot of fun from an album with 4 songs. First 2 tracks seem like they'rd influenced by the velvet underground. Would come back to it many times again for sure

This is a great debut LP, by the way. Delay 1968, which they'd recorded previously, was/is also very good although it's even rawer than Monster Movie, which itself has far more of a Garage Rock/Proto-Punk feel to it than anything else in the group's discography. Hearing this record and Delay 1968 will demonstrate to you why this band was influential on Punk and Post-Punk.

Pay no attention to tildevplus's advice if you're just becoming acquainted with Can. The first five albums are indeed amazing, but several of their later albums (Saw Delight, Flow Motion, Landed) and archival releases (Delay 1968, Limited/Unlimited Edition, Peel Sessions, Radio Waves, among others) are awesome. Can wasn't a band for whom conventional songwriting played much of a role; instead they relied on improvisation and jamming to develop their songs, then edited those sometimes very long jams/improvisations down into more palatable lengths. Can is the kind of band whose entire discography is more or less worth owning, with the exception of the disappointing Malcolm Mooney/Can reunion record Rite Time and potentially 1978's self-titled album, which has a couple of good moments but overall feels dull and uninspired. But their post-Soon Over Babaluma albums are mostly very good and showcase the group's importance in the development of Ambient, Electronic and World musics.

Someone please teach me how to tolerate/enjoy Malcolm's voice during the first 3 minutes of Yoo Doo Right so I don't stop this awesome album every fucking time the fucking song comes up.

The Can...eh? I just noticed...good album but a bit too dry. I much prefer the lush/wet sounds of Future Days & Soon Over Babaluna.

"father cannot yell is a weak opener for a very good record" you have to be fucking kidding me?! To me, this is like the krautrock equivalent of Slayer's Reign in Blood, where the first and last track are godly, and the rest of the tracks are great, but pale in comparison. [2]
