This is Pat O'Brien's swansong with CC. It's really too bad. I remember not liking this album too much and then I eventually liked it a lot. A Skeletal Domain is a million times better.

The midst of ruin ? Sounds like the ides of march. Or something Opeth would write.

This album is just... "okay." IDK exactly what it is, even after 4-5 times thru the album... It just doesn't hit me like most CC albums do. Not bad but not great.

Good, but nothing more. Erik Rutan mixes sounds aways the same, boring and repetitive. Its time CC change the producer, or they will aways release that stuff that sounds more of the same.

This record has kind of grown to me, but I still don't think it's better than A Skeletal Domain. If they got back Mark Lewis (producer, recorder, mixer and engineer) of A Skeletal Domain, it probably would have way better.

Well, as good as the last album is, I think Red before black is a step down from Skeletal Domain. And they worked again with Erik Rutan. His production is really bland for me, and the drum sound is depressing. It sounds lifeless and it doesn't matter what he produces, his own albums (Hate Eternal) or someone else's, drums sound the same. And is it just me or Cannibal Corpse would really benefit from other much more creative and able drummer than Paul Mazurkiewicz??? Just an opinion, folks. Do not beat me.

I think Mazurkiewicz is one of the most underrated drummers in death metal, drumming today is all about speed and flash, but most of these guys can't handle simple groove - they play like machines, and it's boring. Paul's drumming is understated and deceptively simple - he knows he's playing with amazing front-facing musicians and he doesn't try to outdo them, but at the same time he adds so many amazing details in his rolls, and the man absolutely swings a beat. He's the Phil Rudd of death metal.

I totally agree with you about Paul, it's a lost art among death metal drummers. ! Kolias blasting would ruin Cannibal Corpse.

thanks for the comments, I haven't paid attention to his drumming from the side you described, but I was speaking not about speed. I was referring about adding a little bit of interesting nuances and different perspective. His playing is quite one-dimensional, and while I am not really complaining here, I am really curious what direction could their song-writing take with another fresh mind, that's all, because there is so much potential with the guitar playing, and I always think that Paul somehow puts a little restrain on the whole thing, but what can I say, people call this a particular style for a reason.

I agree that it is a step down from A Skeletal Domain. It lacks the intensity of A Skeletal Domain.

While I totally agree with you about Rutan mixes, I disagree with you about the quality of the music on this album. I love how pummeling it is from start to finish. My favorite CC songs are always the fast, thrashy ones. I love Skeletal and all, but RBB takes it a step up for me.

I quite agree with you, but while I was listening to Skeletal domain, it felt like the guys started exploring their sound and not just relying on time-proofed formula (which is a good thing, because this is why so many people love them). in RBB they just got back on track, and this is not bad at all. i think I rushed a bit on my judgement, RBB is just pure safe CC, and I still love it.

Definitely better than Skeletal. They're slowing down a bit, but these songs still rock. Yeah, CC still got it!

lol Who the fuck tagged nu metal? Anyway this is another crushing album. CC are consistent.

Yes. I noticed that as well. Someone also tagged it with pop too. The album was also tagged with hip hop, but that has disappeared.

To me, this is Torture Part 2. That makes sense since Erik Rutan produced this record and Torture.

A solid effort by CC, but I don't think it's better than A Skeletal Domain. A Skeletal Domain is still my favorite Cannibal Corpse album and my favorite album overall.

Nobody canceled the pre-order, so calm the fuck down. I don't think that the official version will be something radically different, except from the sound level.
