Biography

Capital H is a four-piece band from Toronto, Canada. Drawing from influences that cross numerous genres, they have created a unique sound that is difficult to pin down to one style.

In late 2007, friends and longtime band mates, Sam Hargrove and Rich Taylor were discussing their ideas for a punk band where they could work at a rapid pace and be free to experiment with different ideas. As the discussion dissolved into a belligerent argument, Capital H was born.

With the quick addition of guitarist Zachary Ginsberg, and several stylistic evolutions, they spent the next two years writing, performing, and recording music varied from punk, rock, alternative, metal and progressive. After recording three albums and building themselves a diverse catalogue, the work began to feel empty without a talented singer on their music.

In April 2010, when Sam met Michelle Scott in class at the University of Toronto, he invited her to try out for the band. With an album of instrumentals partially recorded, Michelle immediately began recording vocals. Her unique blend of soft singing and spastic yells turned out to be exactly what the music was missing. With a vocalist finally in place that fit the sound of the band, who could also add synth, and noise to the live show, Capital H set to work. The Fields was released in late October in the midst of a string of several shows.

The band has continued to play shows frequently in and around the Toronto area while maintaining the relentless approach to writing and recording, which has progressed naturally, as each member is an active songwriter. In the two months since recording The Fields, the band has recorded its follow up to The Fields, the Box ->Sun EP. The four-song release contains the best material that Capital H has produced to date, balancing progressive elements with an energetic, punk rock aesthetic.

In 2011, the band will be releasing a series of four stylistically distinct EPs. Each release will contain a cohesive group of songs that are the result of experimenting with specific methods of songwriting and approaches to instrumentation. Be on the lookout for several shows in and around the GTA every couple of weeks and a new four or five song EP every 3 months.
