  • Founded In

    London, England, United Kingdom

Emerging from the backstreets of North Perth, Western Australia, Cat Black concoct a sexy mélange of swampy garage blues and sweet country sounds in songs of love and dejection. Over the last couple of years, the four-piece have cultivated and refined their sound, their live shows earning the respect of local audiences, fellow musicians, and local media alike.

Cat Black’s debut release Love is Gone (2009) has received excellent reviews, and was a feature album of both Drum Media streetpress and local radio station RTRfm. The band have supported an array of national acts including Melbourne’s Sailors and Swine, The Dead South, and Brisbane’s notorious punk rock ‘n’ roll act 6ft Hick. Early 2010 saw the band supporting The Stabs and playing at the St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival, supporting the likes of Echo and the Bunnymen and Daniel Johnston.

Cat Black are currently recording new songs for the Cellar Sessions Compilation alongside other Perth favourites including Mongrel Country, The Bible Bashers and The Trevallys. With plans for a sophomore release and national tour later in the year, 2010 looks to be pretty brutal. Cat Black, coming to a seedy bar near you.

“…Sleazy Detroit blues, thunderous drumming and some of the lowest slung bass riffs this side of Chicago all rolled into one under the sultry vocals of singer Emma.” – Fasterlouder.com.au

“Sometimes when a group kicks off, they are so evidently talented that people automatically start gravitating closer to the stage. Cat Black has this ability and is no secret this is, at least in part, due to the dark and captivating vocals of Emma.” – XPress Magazine

"Cat Black are an interesting combination of crooning vocals and fiery guitars. The female lead singer has an Exene Cervenka vibe but with more jazz power. The band have a bouncy sound, energy-raising riffs and a tendency to make the listener feel like they are floating inside a bubble of ecstasy." - Fasterlouder.com.au
