Discussions of ethics aside, I've actually always really liked that this song is reminiscent of other songs. It's like waking up hungover and remembering that the night before you started singing a familar song from when you were a kid you thought you'd forgotten forever. There's something so soothing about her voice mixed with the scratchy guitar, like she's invented a new way to calm yourself each day.

it has the same chords of the verse of the intro of Sitting in the dock of the bay. Maybe she only wanted to quote Otis, he's one of her great musical loves.

a friend pointed out that it sounds a little bit like sittin on the dock of a bay by otis redding. just a little, it really does if you listen to them straight after eachother.
